Program/Deputy Director​


About ACES
ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students) is an innovative out-of-school time program that brings math and social-emotional learning to life for Twin Cities students. Our mission is to reduce the academic opportunity gap and improve the likelihood of success for students in traditionally underserved communities. ACES’ programming consists of group classroom sessions, one-on-one mentorships, and unique experiential learning opportunities. Our project-based curriculum engages students through sports-themed, real-world learning. ACES partners with mission-aligned Twin Cities organizations and schools, as well as Minnesota’s professional sports teams, to deliver transformational programming for hundreds of students every year. ACES is proud to be the first and only organization of its kind to have the direct support of every major Minnesota professional sports team.

The Program/Deputy Director’s Responsibilities
The Program/Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and has responsibility for the overall strategy, leadership, and implementation of ACES’ educational and youth development programming.  As a key member of the organization’s Leadership Team, the Program/Deputy Director contributes to ACES’ long-term growth and vision.  Specific responsibilities of the job include:
  • Overseeing the development and execution of a comprehensive program strategy.
  • Leading a team of Site Coordinators and Academic Coaches who deliver classroom instruction. Developing a positive, collaborative staff culture. Fostering staff growth and development 
  • Ensuring that all ACES students receive the highest quality instruction and mentorship.
  • Ensuring that ACES programs meet community needs, are aligned with current education standards and research, and are implemented consistently and effectively across sites. 
  • Serving as a key leader for ACES’ DEI work. 
  • Serving as a primary ambassador for the organization, reflecting organizational values in the communities we serve and beyond. 
  • Building strong relationships and managing key partnerships with schools and community organizations. 
 
 
Qualifications
The Program Deputy Director will have an unwavering commitment to ACES’ mission, to reducing educational disparities that affect young people’s learning, and to data-driven program evaluation and design. Specific qualifications for the job include the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher. 
  • A successful track record in managing people and processes.
  • Experience in setting and achieving strategic goals. 
  • Experience working in youth programming and/or education.
  • Documented ability to initiate and follow through on ideas.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including in public settings.
  • Strong computer and data management skills (experience with Excel preferred).
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of personalities, ages, and situations. 
 
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Experience in teaching, lesson planning, and/or tutoring, especially in math.
  • Experience working with and/or living in underserved and historically marginalized communities.
  • Successful track record in working with volunteers.
  • Current Minnesota teaching license or desire to pursue one.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Somali, or Hmong .
 
Compensation: Salary and Benefits 
This is a full-time position. The starting salary, which is commensurate with qualifications and experience, is in the $78,000 to $85,000 range. There are generous employer-covered health, vision, and dental plans; 12 paid holidays; generous PTO; a “Summer Friday” schedule; a flexible work schedule and remote work opportunities; regular professional development and personal growth opportunities; an Employee Assistance Program (EAP); a vacation savings plan; and a fitness incentive program.
