Choosing the leader is one of the most important roles of a Board of Directors.
Such a task needs to be handled with the utmost of care, competence, and confidence.
How many searches has Cincinnatus done?
Cincinnatus has helped place scores of Executive Leaders across a wide range of nonprofits in terms of service area and geographic scope. Our customized search process works for the small charitable organization with a localized mission to large international member organizations. We recruit strong candidates, help search committees conduct effective interviews, and plan for successful onboarding of the new executive.
What differentiates Cincinnatus from other firms performing executive searches?
Our approach is to guide you through that process. As a result, we engage the Search Committee of the Board in more aspects of the search than other firms might.
The result is twofold:
How does Cincinnatus structure its fee for an executive search?
One of the primary differentiators between Cincinnatus and other firms is that we customize our approach to your organization’s needs. We charge our clients only for the work we do rather than a flat fee. Therefore, if a position is able to be filled more quickly, or if the Search Committee wishes to take greater ownership of parts of the process, the fee paid to Cincinnatus may be less than what other search firms would charge.
What is the Cincinnatus commitment to justice and equity in the search process?
We embrace diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better we will fulfill our mission. Our approach to equity in our leadership searches, which we have honed over the years, is threefold.

- First, we reach out to our broad network of colleagues who trust us as recruiters. These individuals tend to be leaders in their fields with wide networks of their own. They, in turn, either reach out to their networks, who often include potential candidates who represent diverse constituencies, or refer us to get in touch with the potential candidates directly.
- Second, we recruit from our database of professionals who have expressed interest in other opportunities. We know these individuals well, and we are generally aware if they represent a BIPOC or other diverse category, and if they have the desired qualifications.
- Finally, we post the position at a number of locations that get traffic from BIPOC candidates (such as Diversity Jobs) and reach out to position-specific organizations that have BIPOC affiliation.
